Our pulp mill has been operating since September 1, 2026 under the name of Dunajvros Pulp Mill Ltd., but straw pulp manufacture at the Dunajvros site can look back on a past of nearly forty years.
The straw pulp mill started operations in 1962. This tradition going back over several decades has not only allowed for manufacture of a continually developing and marketable product, but is evidenced by the fact that wheat-straw, which is produced as a by-product of cereal growing in Hungary, provides raw materials for industrial activity in appropriate quantity and quality, in the form of a material that is reproduced from year to year. Wood replacing straw, in addition to resulting in a product providing special multi-purpose uses, also serves very important environmental protection purposes, namely the protection of forests.
The present capacity of the mill is 30,000 tons/year. We modernized our technology and equipment in 1985, and replaced or developed essential production equipment in the framework of reconstruction, aimed at expanding capacity. In order to improve the marketability of straw pulp we set up a drying and packaging system in 2000.We manage wheat-straw chemical exploitation, washing, grading and whitening of pulp, and regeneration of used chemicals with the aid of process-controlling computers. The best-known Swedish, Finnish and German machine manufacturers are the suppliers of our equipment.
Most steam power is provided by the chemical regenerating boiler, where heat is generated by burning organic materials released from the straw, and agents are retrieved from spent test chemicals. The pulp mill makes use of the institutions forming part of the infrastructure of DUNAPACK in Dunajvros, such as water producing, sewage purification, and energy supply installations.
In addition to our straw testing equipment, we also possess constant wood testing equipment, in which we produce unbleached poplar pulp. We have the opportunity of bleaching leafy pulp separately, or together with straw pulp. As a result our product range is expanded, in addition to bleached straw pulp, by bleached leafy pulp and bleached mixed pulp.
Our products are used both by domestic and foreign paper mills, and our export of special straw pulp manufactured for production of additives for objectives not related to the paper industry continues to be significant.
