Started last December, a major investment project on the corrugated board machine of the Nyíregyháza plant continues this year. The intermediate corrugating section of the corrugated board machine is being replaced in the course of work started on 20 December 2002. The replacement also involves the associated preheater, conveyor, reel changer and bridge.
As a result of the project, board production will soon be enhanced in terms of both quality and quantity.
As an antecedent to the current project, the reel holders have been replaced as early as the turn of 2001-2002. The current installation work was begun on 8 January 2003. The new BHS corrugator features a press belt whose reel changers are also supplied by BHS. These are likewise state-of-the-art, with the supplier guaranteeing 99% reliability in reel changing.
The corrugator’s capabilities are more advanced than its predecessor – both in terms of quality and quantity: Its maximum capacity can reach up to 330 m/sec as compared to the predecessor’s maximum of 250 m/sec. The new machine is an double cassette device for ‘B’ and ‘C’ flute type. Each cassette is built-in and are hydraulically changeable, so production downtime between change of flute types is reduced to just five minutes. Conversion of the board machine bridge has been completed from the first corrugator to the middle one. The original 2.2-m bridge has been widened to 2.5 m, so the production of even five-ply boards can now be done at such widths. Once works are completed the following board configurations will be possible:
- At a sheet width of 2,500 mm: 3 to 5-ply E, B, C, EB, EC, BC and BB corrugated boards
- At a sheet width of 2,200 mm, apart from those mentioned above, it is possible produce BCC, BBC, ECC, and EBC 7-ply boards, as well as CC 5-ply boards.
Full completion of the works is expected by late January. The first and the last corrugator will operate with only minor interruptions during the upgrade, so only the production of 7-ply sheets will be suspended. (These items had been scheduled prior to the beginning of the works, so it was possible to minimize the interruptions.) Regular information will be provided on new developments concerning the project.
