Cigarette paper - base material will be produced in Dunaújváros as from July
The only cellulose mill in Europe has changed hands. The multinational company Trierenberg Holding, as hundred-percentage-owner of the Dunaújváros Cellulose Kft, operates and develops the plant as from the 1st of July 2004. Actually, Dunapack Ltd – the previous owner of the mill- specialised for the production of packaging material could not do much with the factory in Dunaújváros. On the one hand the production of cellulose does not belong to the profile of Dunapack, since they use waste paper for the manufacturing of packaging material, on the other hand the fine paper mill located in the neighbourhood of the factory and belonging to the interest of Neusiedler paper factory in Szolnok has not needed the base paper.
What the mill’s life saved was the fact that the factory has continuously exported its products, which were made of straw and were applicable to a special food-admixture. János Kovács, who was the director of the Cellulose mill Kft during the Dunapack era manages the firm through the authorization of the new owner now, said that they had little profit every year. But the profit was deprived by the parent company meaning that there has been no significant improvement in the plant for 10 years. The new owner has developed the factory with EUR 12 million investments because of two reasons: besides the straw cellulose that meets special requirements, the production of flax cellulose is also planned.
According to the new \time\ the production in the plant will stop at the beginning of April and the manufacturing of flax cellulose with the new production line will start on the 1st of July, too. The workers will get the same wages during the three-month-period, and they will take part in the redevelopment and investment tasks.
The Austrian Trierenberg Holding deals with production and converting of cigarette paper. Their cellulose mill and paper factory supply - besides Europe - for the more and more expanded American and Asian market. Because of the fact that the cellulose mill in Dunaújváros is the only one in Euroe, the owners have an eye to it and pay special attention for it. As the Hungarian managing director said, they felt relieved of a great weight when the plant was sold in the last minute and they were delighted because such a professional investor bought it who can provide not only market but also flax, which is the base material of cellulose. After modernization, the capacity of the cellulose mill can be fully utilized and they can forget the application of chlorine for the whitening after three years.
