Corrugated Board Demand in Europe is Up

According to the forecasts stated by Pyrabelisk Ltd. (Great Britain) in its study of November 2002, the corrugated board production of eleven Central and Eastern European countries (Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Yugoslavia) will reach some 4.5 billion sq. meters by 2005.

Changing Packing Material Markets

Packaging is big business - global production is estimated at nearly USD 400 billion. Consumer packaging material account for the overwhelming majority of this business: comprising nearly two thirds of all consumption. Corrugated board accounts for nearly 20% of all packaging sales, second only to rigid plastic packaging materials.

Headed by Dr. József TAR, the organization agglomerates firms, which hold system certification. Over the last decade, one of the fundamental objectives of this Forum with approximately 500 members was to introduce companies that have achieved excellence in quality and have been awarded accordingly. Like the one taking place in our plant on 10 April, the discussions not only communicate good news, but by the transfer of professional information could serve as an example to the visitors.

The Marketing Department registered nearly 80 inquirers on that frosty April 8th morning, which shows just how close a relationship our sales people have managed to establish with our partners dealing with packaging and purchasing. New Regulations for Packaging Waste

The mandatory payment of a product charge as of 1 January 2003 no longer applies to “disposables”, but to “packaging.” Those “manufacturers” which, either individually or through a coordinating organization, meet the recycling targets set, could be exempt from paying a product fee.

Upgrade of Corrugated Board Line in Nyíregyháza

Started last December, a major investment project on the corrugated board machine of the Nyíregyháza plant continues this year. The intermediate corrugating section of the corrugated board machine is being replaced in the course of work started on 20 December 2002. The replacement also involves the associated preheater, conveyor, reel changer and bridge.

Dunapack looks to electricity liberalisation

Dunapack is expecting price cuts from the opening up of the electricity market, we were told by the company’s deputy CEO, Zoltán Szikla. He claimed that the present tariff system works against large consumers like Dunapack, which pay some 25 per cent more for power than large companies operating in Austria or Germany. The company’s electricity bill this year will top some 1.7 billion forints, the greatest consumption being in its paper making operations.

Use of plastic bags falls by 90% in Ireland

The 10 penny price imposed on bags by shops has enriched the Irish treasury by 2.25 million pounds over five months. Even greater than this, however, is the benefit from reducing the mountains of waste bags – said the Irish Environment Minister to BBC Radio.

Waste outstrips demand

The enormous accumulated stocks of waste paper preclude any risk to supplies for the Dunaújváros works, said Péter Galli, Financial Director of Dunapack Ltd. Paper Division. Stocks also carry a price, and so recently the dynamic rise of waste paper collection has itself caused purchasing problems. Péter Galli said that the quotas defined for waste paper have already been surpassed by some ten per cent.

Corrugated board market looks forward to explosive capacity growth

By the end of 2005, capacity rises in the worldwide corrugated board market are set to a total of 6 M tonnes. At present, Asia is leading in the capacity growth: in the next two years, China alone plans growth of more than 3.8 M tonnes. There is no sign of a slowdown in China’s supercharged rate of growth. Nine Dragons, the Chinese paper company, wants to push up its capacity by another 2.5 million tonnes in the following years.

Hamburger group awaits result of public enquiry

The public enquiry into the new establishment, lasted until 4 August, affording anybody the chance to speak against the plans. Only after the proceedings have concluded – probably next year – can the project commence, even the production of a detailed schedule and establishment of contacts with potential suppliers.

Nature photographer of the year 2002

It was a chance meeting that brought Dunapack Ltd. into contact with the Hungarian Nature Photographers’ Association, founded in 1990. The Association was seeking a reliable, seriously-minded sponsor for the first stages of its competition. In 1993, they jointly founded the “Nature Photographer of the Year” competition. The initiative was an enormous success from the outset, attracting widespread recognition.
