Corrugated board market looks forward to explosive capacity growth
By the end of 2005, capacity rises in the worldwide corrugated board market are set to a total of 6 M tonnes. At present, Asia is leading in the capacity growth: in the next two years, China alone plans growth of more than 3.8 M tonnes. There is no sign of a slowdown in China’s supercharged rate of growth. Nine Dragons, the Chinese paper company, wants to push up its capacity by another 2.5 million tonnes in the following years.

Of the other regions, only Western Europe is planning capacity growth on a scale similar to Asia’s. Germany is out in front, where the sector envisages an increase of at least 1.2 million tonnes by 2005. |
