At our subsidiaries, capital investments were realised in the value of HUF 1.4 billion for various development projects, while HUF 750 million were spent on the maintenance of standards. A great majority of the projects enjoying priority were aimed at improving the production of boxes, including:
-
installation of a new in-line box manufacturing machine in Romania, in the value of approx. HUF 350 million,
-
in Poland a new die-cutting machine was installed in the value of HUF 320 million,
-
in Croatia the drying section of the board manufacturing line was updated in the value of HUF 138 million,
-
in the Ukraine, separation of the production of bags and boxes was started in the framework of the Hodorov project (HUF 174 million), accompanied by a considerable development of the corrugating machine line as well.
The ISO 9001 quality and ISO 14001 environmental management systems, furthermore, the OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety system, introduced in all areas of activity and in all units of Dunapack Ltd., were repeatedly audited, and their certification was extended for the period up to 2009. In addition, the environmental protection system of the Dunaújváros site was audited under EMAS as well.
Indexes for the loading of the environment were further reduced, including the rate of energy and water used per 1 ton of finished product, while the excellent air pollution indices were maintained. This means that the company produces twice as much paper as a decade ago with the same energy input and one third of the quantity of water used before.
Ground-water purification following the removal of the contaminated soil discovered at the Csepel site as a remnant from the distant past continued in 2006. The purification process is slower than planned and should be carried on for several years to come. The method applied prevents the spreading of contamination.
In 2006, the total amount of capital investments in environmental protection reached HUF 142 million. A great majority of these projects are targeted at paper manufacturing, the corporate operation with the highest pollution factor. Our most important environmental projects include the following:
-
The Csepel plant is surrounded by a residential area with public institutions. Noise protection in this area is, therefore, strictly regulated by the environmental protection authority, stipulating a noise reduction program for the period of 2003 to 2005. A part of the necessary investments was carried over to early 2006. |
